The Lucent Church
The main religion is based on light. Worshippers back in the day worshiped the sun, but over time throught the research of light they came to realize that the light emitted from the sun can be split up into a rainbow using prisms. This led to the now-common belief that the sun is a singular deity, but it has seven refractions. Each refraction is as follows:
| Refraction | Name | Ideals | Domains | Common Classes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Red |
Absorption | Passion, Sacrifice, War | War, Tempest | Fighters, Barbarians |
Orange |
Diffraction | Adaptability, Change, Transformation | Forge, Twilight | Bards, Gunslingers |
Yellow |
Transmission | Revelation, Prophecy, Diplomacy | Light, Peace | Paladins, Sorcerers |
Green |
Emission | Growth, Healing, Connection | Life, Nature | Druids, Monks |
Blue |
Polarization | Truth, Justice, Memory, Learning | Knowledge, Arcana | Wizards, Artificers |
Indigo |
Interference | Mystery, Duality, Secrets | Trickery, Death | Rogues, Warlocks |
Violet |
Reflection | Purity, Discernment, Balance | Order, Grave | Rangers, Monks |
These refractions became branches of a larger church that started in kingdom of Grainstrough but has since spread to almost every kingdom. Basically everyone on the surface believes in one of these branches, but which one varies from family to family and person to person. The High Luminary runs the church, but each of the refractions has a Luminary to lead each branch as well.
When a person is promoted to become a Luminary, they typically hold the position for 40 years or until they pass away. This is the case for all refractions except for the High Luminary. When a new High Luminary rises to the position, they may only sit as the High Luminary for up to 20 years. This rule comes directly from Lucent scripture. If the designated time passes and the person is still alive, they are released from the position and typically return to the life they had before becoming a Luminary. There have been cases in the past where Luminaries have been seen as unfit for the job due to various reasons. In these cases, all of the refractive Luminaries meet as a council and decide by vote whether to keep them or release them.
